May Challenge, 2009

29 April, 2009 (20:59) | maychallenge | By: trevor

It’s that time again! Time for the May Challenge. I must say, that past year plus had been quite fun. I enjoy watching each of you get the challenge and head out into the world to hunt down whatever we’ve asked of you. You all do such a wonderful job with all the challenges!

"Brought to You by the Letter "T", by B Tal

This month, the month of May, 2009, we’re going to have you head out into the world and find natural occurrences and man made occurrences of the English alphabet. Each day will be a new letter, starting with the letter “A”. I can map it out if you wish. We won’t be publishing a daily reminder for it though, as the 2009 Challenge consumes our efforts each day.

"S", by Joseph Robertson

So…

  • May 1st = A
  • May 2nd = B
  • May 3rd = C
  • May 4th = D
  • May 5th = E
  • etc

Take a look at the few examples I’ve included for you to get started. Make sure to tag all your work correctly; “maychallenge2009″. You can add others, but that is the most important one. When you submit each shot to the Flickr group, please only submit one for each day. Feel free to shoot more than one each day, and tag them all, but only one to the group. This will help the moderators to keep a smooth flow within the group’s pool.

On the last couple of days, feel free to select a letter you missed or have found another good subject. Don’t get caught up with large letters, you may simply choose to shoot a macro. Mix it up, have fun, but above all learn!

May Challenge recap

8 June, 2008 (17:16) | maychallenge | By: trevor

You know, the May Challenge was challenging! Obviously I missed out on participating as much as many of you did. You clearly had a good time and were quite creative in meeting the weekly challenges. To recap each of the weeks’ challenges…

  1. Beverage
  2. Automobile
  3. Your Shoes
  4. the # 7
  5. Your Thumb

I’d say that the participation was great. I’m pleased with the regular amount of people who are taking the initiative to stretch themselves and stick to a shooting challenge. Forcing yourself to be creative, whilst following a set of guidelines can really be great for your own photographic imagination. For those who have been involved, at any level, I know that you’re glad you joined us.

Here’s the whole set of participants. Below are a few of my favorites…

Taken on the drive home, along the Pacific Ocean, whilst driving the PCH, my thumb is wonderful.

May Challenge, week 5

23 May, 2008 (19:40) | maychallenge | By: trevor

For this fifth and final week of May, 2008, you’re going to shoot your thumb. That’s it! Each day I want to see a new and unique shot of your own thumb. It doesn’t have to be the only item in the photograph, but it must be the object of our focus.

Here’s a few ideas…

May Challenge, week 4

17 May, 2008 (16:24) | maychallenge | By: trevor

This week, I want to see SEVEN. That’s it. 7. Seven of anything. I’d prefer to see seven of something. The number 7 is acceptable too. Below are a few examples.

This week’s object is inspired by Play Nicely With Others: Games to Play With Your Camera. In that article you’ll find some pretty cool and inspiring ideas to help spark your creativity with your photography.

May Challenge, week 3

11 May, 2008 (03:52) | maychallenge | By: trevor

It's just so simpleWoah, hold on there. Nobody freak out!

It’s time to shift gears and start shooting for week 3. This week we’ll be shooting our shoes. Yup! That’s it, I want to see your shoes. But not just any shoes, and not a variety of shoes. I’m looking for the exact same pair of shoes. Shoot them on your feet. Shoot them on someone else’s feet. Shoot them trying to get away from you. I don’t care, just shoot them!

Ready? Set? Go!

May Challenge, week 2, day 2

Southbound, PCH

I took this, with my Blackberry Pearl, whilst driving home from work today. I guess I could have dropped my phone if I’d hit a bump. I didn’t.

May Challenge, week 2…

4 May, 2008 (07:32) | maychallenge | By: trevor

This week we’re shooting an automobile. Choose one, and shoot it all week. It doesn’t have to be yours, but it does have to be the same one for each 7 submissions.

Get creative! Shoot it with varied lighting. Shoot it from different angles. Shoot it close, shoot it moving, just shoot it!

Go!

Here we see Deanna taking a swig from our new refreshing beverage, a nice cold Coca-Cola, made with cane sugar and not corn syrup.
