July Challenge recap
I’ve seen two types of photographs constantly represented in your submissions for this challenge.
First, I’ve seen many of you who did an amazing job of photographing your subject light fixture. You capture the fixture, and a great sample of the light it produces. There are some submissions that could easily be caught in a magazine or catalog, advertising said fixture. Wonderful job!
Second, I’ve seen many of you experimenting with the various ways to capture the light, in an artistic manner. What I mean here is that sometimes I see gorgeous light, bathing a wall, the fog, or the vicinity around the fixture. Many of you have created great works of art, whilst allowing your subject fixture paint your canvas. Wonderful job!
This challenge was fun to watch, as you all created great submissions. Below are some of my favorites, and I’m proud to have had each of you participate.
Keep a special watch here, because in the first few days of August, I’ll be announcing the September Challenge. This one will be a fun, big step for PhotoChallenge.org, you won’t want to miss it!

This was a very fun challenge, Trevor! It would’ve been challenging enough for a week, but the month-long length of this one pushed my limits of skill and creativeness. And the fact that not just the fixture was the focus, but the light it emitted too, was a great learning experience, especially since lighting is one of the most important things in photography. I’m looking forward to September’s challenge!

@Scott & @Skye,
It was fun! Thank you both for commenting, and hitting on some good points. I think above all, the learning that comes from making a commitment and sticking to it is huge. We stretch ourselves, in anything, and we grow.
The September Challenge is going to awesome! I’m giddy with excitement, and can’t wait to announce it.

It’s been fun to watch the submissions of others throughout the month as well as making my own efforts. I felt good keeping up with daily shooting, though it began to be a bit taxing finding new fixtures! I was one of those that did take the fixture route more than the light emitted. I appreciate the creative challenge and look forward to September.

Yes indeed, thanks - was a fun one to do. I didn’t hit every day though, just plain forgot a couple days near the end of the month while in the midst of stressing over and processing my first wedding shoot. Loved the challenge though, wish I’d gotten a larger variety of fixtures/lighting though!

Trevor,
Thanks for issuing the challenge and encouraging us to all get the cameras out and shoot. This was my first time trying to post a pic-a-day, and it has certainly stretched my skills both with the camera and with the various post-proc software tools.
Looking forward to whatever you’re cooking up for us next.
